SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND
There are a huge number and variety of great four-wheel drive treks in the South East Queensland region. Within one to two hours drive of Brisbane, you have enough bush, beach and mountain drives to keep you exploring for years.
One of the closest 4WD destinations to Brisbane is Mt Mee State Forest. Located on the D’Aguilar Range, it has a huge number of off-road tracks of varying difficulty. There’s also spectacular views, beautiful bush and lovely swimming holes. The Glasshouse Mountains are another great 4WD location.
Take a leisurely drive along forestry roads through the pine plantations and Beerburrum State Forest. Or put your vehicle and technical skills to the test on one of the more challenging tracks. All whilst enjoying glimpses of the spectacular mountains.
If you want a serious challenge, try the Old Esk Road and Old Yarraman road. These take you to the Seven Mile Diggings near Nanango and you will definitely use your 4WD technical skills.
For some great sand driving in South East Queensland, Stradbroke and Moreton Islands are only a barge ride away. Both offer plenty of adventurous driving and great beach camping spots. However, you don’t even need a boat to access one of South East Queensland’s best island 4WD locations. The ocean side of Bribie Island is absolutely stunning and is also a great spot to camp and fish.
The Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast Hinterlands offer up some spectacular rainforest, mountain and bush drives. Many of which can be done in a day trip from Brisbane. The Blackall Range, Connondale National Park and Imbil State Forest have some scenic and enjoyable dirt tracks to explore.
The Currumbin and Tallebudgera Valleys and Lamington National Park behind the Gold Coast, are home to some fantastic drives and views. A little further inland, the Cambanoora Gorge drive is an absolutely beautiful day out. You cross the Condamine River fourteen times, which is great fun, especially after rain.
With all these options and more so close to Brisbane, you really are spoilt for choice in this region!
